ADAPTATIONS IN PLANTS FOR PROTECTION

Just like animals, plants also have some enemies. Many plants have developed

different types of adaptations to save themselves from their enemies.

 Plants like the yam produce poisonous fruits or sap, which are harmful to
                    humans and animals.

 Some plants like pumpkin and bamboo have fine hair on their stem and

leaves. These hair cause itchiness when touched.

 Some plants like pineapple, plum, rose, etc. develop thorns on their leaves, stems
or fruits. These thorns cause injury to the animals which touch or eat them.

                  AT ONE GO

m Plants show different types of adaptations to live in different types of habitat.
m Plants that grow on land are called terrestrial plants, and plants that grow in water are called aquatic
                    plants.

m Terrestrial plants are found on hills, mountains, plains, marshes and deserts.
m Aquatic plants are grouped into free-floating, fixed-floating and submerged plants.
