                                                         Some extinct animals
Just like plants, animals also develop some special features called adaptations to

               survive in their surroundings.

ADAPTATIONS IN ANIMALS LIVING IN DIFFERENT HABITATS

Animals are found everywhere on the Earth. They are found in deep oceans, on

high mountains and in the frozen polar regions.

Based on the habitat, animals are grouped as

 Terrestrial animals  Aquatic animals  Amphibians

 Arboreal animals  Aerial animals

               Adaptations in terrestrial animals

Animals that live on land are called terrestrial animals. Deer, cow, bison, lion,

zebra, etc. are terrestrial animals. All these animals have strong legs to walk
around. They can also run fast. They

               also have well-developed lungs to
               breathe.

Terrestrial animals like camels live in

desert areas. Since food and water is
not easily available in deserts, they

store fat in their humps. This fat can Deer Bison
be converted into water when needed.

Camels can also drink about ten
buckets of water at a time. They have

thick skin which protects them from
the heat of the sun. Thick skin also Lion Zebra

prevents loss of water by evaporation. Terrestrial animals
