2 Adaptations in Plants

Warm Up • Critical Thinking

Plants grow at different places such as mountains, plains,
sea coasts, deserts, water bodies, etc. Can you tell where

does the plant shown in the picture grow?

ADAPTATION

We see plants all around us. Have you ever seen a lotus flower growing in soil

or a cactus growing in water? Can a polar bear live in a dense forest or desert
or can a camel live on snow? The answer in each case is ‘No’. In fact, a lotus

flower grows in water while a cactus plant needs sandy soil to grow. Similarly,
a polar bear cannot live in a dense forest or desert and a camel cannot live on

snow. Let’s understand the reason behind it.
