Plants growing in different habitats

Plants and animals live in different climates. They develop special features to be
able to grow in their particular climate. This special feature is called adaptation.

The specific place where a plant or an animal lives, is called its habitat.

Adaptations help a plant or animal to live well in its habitat but make it very
difficult to live and grow in a different habitat. That is why a lotus flower cannot

grow in soil and a polar bear cannot live in a forest.

                                             ADAPTATIONS IN PLANTS

Plants growing in different places are different from each other. The adaptations

in plants depend upon their surroundings, types of soil, temperature and rainfall.
On the basis of habitats, plants are divided into two groups. The plants that

grow on land are called terrestrial plants and those growing in water are called
               aquatic plants.

               Adaptations in terrestrial plants

               The terrestrial habitats can be

 Hills and mountains  Plains

                 Marshy areas  Deserts
