MATHS LAB ACTIVITY • Experiential Learning
Aim: To make a measuring bottle and using it justify estimated volume of liquid.
Materials: An empty large plastic bottle, a 100 mL or 50 mL measure, marker
pen, some vessels
Method:
Preparing measuring bottle
1000mL
1. Using a 100 mL measure, pour 100 mL water into an 900mL
empty plastic bottle. 800mL
700mL
2. Mark the level with the marker pen and write 100 mL 600mL
along the mark. 500mL
400mL
3. Continue adding 100 mL water at a time and mark each 300mL
new level (200 mL, 300 mL, etc.) until you reach 1000 200mL
mL or 1 L. 100mL
Thus, the bottle is ready to measure the
quantity of liquid up to 1 L.
1000mL
Estimating volume of liquid and justify
900mL
4. Take a cup full of water. Guess how much 800mL
water the cup has. Suppose you say 100 mL. 700mL
600mL
5. Pour this water carefully into the measuring 500mL
bottle and observe its level. 400mL
300mL
6. Estimate and check the volume of some other
200mL
vessels.
100mL
Observation:
Vessels Estimated volume Measured volume
1. A cup 100 mL More than 100 mL
2. A glass
3. A mug
4. A bowl
5. A medicine bottle
