P. 222
Example 5: The perimeter of a square is 60 m, find its area.
Solution: We have perimeter of a square = 60 m
i.e., 4 × side = 60 m
60
Side = m
4
= 15 m
Hence, area of the square = Side × Side
= 15 m × 15 m
= 225 sq. m
EXERCISE 6.2
A. Find the area of the rectangle in each case.
1. l = 8 cm, b = 6 cm 2. l = 16 cm, b = 12 cm
3. l = 4 m, b = 1.5 m 4. l = 20.4 cm, b = 15.5 cm
B. Find the area and perimeter of squares whose sides are given below.
1. 8 m 2. 30 cm 3. 13.5 m 4. 24.4 cm
C. Solve the following problems.
1. Find the area of a chessboard whose each side is 30 cm long.
2. Find the area of a rectangular field whose length and breadth are 80 m and
40 m respectively. Also, find its perimeter.
3. The perimeter of a rectangle is 216 cm. If its length is 48 cm, find the
area of the rectangle.
4. The floor of a hall is 8 m long and 4 m wide. How many square tiles of
side 50 cm each would be required for flooring the hall?
5. The area of a rectangle is equal to the area of a square. If each side
of the square is 15 cm and width of the rectangle is 9 cm, find the
length of the rectangle. Have the two shapes equal perimeter? Justify.
6. Which has greater area—a rectangle of 16 cm by 10 cm or a square of
13 cm?
