P. 156
(b) The number 127296 ends with 6, so it is divisible by 2
but not by 5 or 10.
Sum of digits of this number = 1 + 2 + 7 + 2 + 9 + 6
= 27 is a multiple of 3 as well as 9, so the number is
divisible by 3 and 9.
The number is divisible by 2 and 3 both, so it is also
divisible by 6.
The number formed with the last two digits is 96 (i.e.,
a multiple of 4) and the number formed with the last
three digits is 296 (i.e., a multiple of 8), hence the
given number is divisible by 4 as well as 8.
Example 2: Check whether the numbers 43978 and 1234568 are
divisible by 11.
Solution: In 43978, the sum of digits at odd places is 4 + 9 + 8
= 21 and at even places is 3 + 7 = 10. Their difference
21 – 10, i.e., 11 is divisible by 11, so the number 43978
is also divisible by 11.
In 1234568, the sum of digits at odd places is 1 + 3 +
5 + 8 = 17 and at even places is 2 + 4 + 6 = 12. Their
difference 17 – 12, i.e., 5 is neither 0 nor divisible by 11.
So, the number is not divisible by 11.

3. 4 (a) 200 (b) 310 (c) 6472 (d) 12342 (e) 20357
4. 5 (a) 36 (b) 45 (c) 110 (d) 1000 (e) 49875
5. 6 (a) 31 (b) 74 (c) 165 (d) 426 (e) 3594
6. 8 (a) 120 (b) 1046 (c) 5000 (d) 96832 (e) 42596
