Ball and socket joint: In this type of joint, one end of a bone is round like a

ball. This ball-shaped end fits into the socket of another bone. The round bone
easily rotates in the socket. It allows movement in almost all directions. This

joint is found in our hips and shoulders.

Pivot joint: The pivot joint is between the first and the second vertebrae of the
backbone. The skull is connected to the first two vertebrae of the vertebral column

with a pivot joint. It allows the rotating movement from side to side.

Gliding joint: This joint is found between small bones of the wrist and ankles. It
allows sliding movements which are simple back and forth gliding or sideways gliding.

                                                            MUSCLES

Our bones are covered with soft tissue called muscles. Muscles
help to move our bones. The human body has more than

600 muscles. Muscles are connected to bones with tendons.
The tendons are very strong fibres that join muscles to bones

               and help them in movement.

               Types of Muscles

There are two types of muscles based on their nature. These are: The muscular system
