Example 7: Simplify: 28.32 + 491.1 – 386.927
Solution: Step 1. Step 2.
2 8 . 3 2 5 1 9 . 4 2 0
+ 4 9 1 . 1 0 – 3 8 6 . 9 2 7
5 1 9 . 4 2 1 3 2 . 4 9 3
Thus, 28.32 + 491.1 – 386.927 = 132.493
Example 8: A vessel contained 2.250 L of milk. My mother poured
2.500 L more milk in it. How much milk is now in the
vessel?
Solution: Milk kept in the vessel = 2 . 2 5 0 L
Milk poured by mother = + 2 . 5 0 0 L
∴ Quantity of milk in the vessel = 4 . 7 5 0 L
Example 9: Rita had `200. She bought sugar for `45.50, rice for
`29.25 and wheat flour for `95. How much money was
left with her?
Solution: Money spent on sugar = ` 4 5 . 5 0
`
Money spent on rice = 2 9 . 2 5
Money spent on wheat flour = + ` 9 5 . 0 0
`
Total expense = 1 6 9 . 7 5
Rita had the sum of money = ` 2 0 0 . 0 0
She spent for buying things = – ` 1 6 9 . 7 5
∴ Money left with Rita ` 3 0 . 2 5
