6 Symmetry and Patterns Competencies

                                                                                                         C-2.4, C-2.5

We have learnt about symmetry and patterns

in our earlier classes. Now we will learn more
about it. Before we go ahead let us observe the

               following.

In our surroundings, we find many figures and

objects that can be folded along a straight line
in such a way that they are divided equally into

two halves. Look at these monuments and draw
               a line to divide equally.

Patterns are regularly repeated arrangement of
shapes, colours or lines on a surface.

Observe the patterns made on walls, ceilings and

floors inside the Red Fort, Delhi.

                                                            Symmetry

Look at the dragonfly. It has open wings. If it folds its

wings, both the wings coincide with each other. It means,
the dragonfly has identical two halves, hence we can

say, it is symmetric. Make your own symmetrical design.
