P. 161
Example 5: By selling a desert cooler for `6000, the shopkeeper
loses `300. What is the cost price of the desert cooler?
Solution: Given, S.P. of the desert cooler = `6000 and Loss = `300
∴ Cost price = S.P. + Loss
= `6000 + `300 = `6300
Calculation of S.P.
If we have C.P. and profit for an article, then S.P. = C.P. + Profit
If we have C.P. and loss for an article, then S.P. = C.P. – Loss
Example 6: A bookseller bought some books for `4000 and sold
them at a gain of `600. What was the selling price of
the books?
Solution: Given, cost price of the books = `4000
Profit = `600
∴ Selling price = Cost price + Profit
= `4000 + `600 = `4600
Example 7: A trader buys a goat for `1250 and sells it at a loss of
`85. What is the selling price of the goat?
Solution: Given, Cost price = `1250 and Loss = `85
∴ S.P. = C.P. – Loss
= `1250 – `85 = `1165
EXERCISE 5.2
A. Compute the cost price for each of the following.
1. S.P. = `600, Loss = `25
2. S.P. = `2600, Profit = `500
3. S.P. = `48.50, Profit = `7.50
4. S.P. = `4000, Loss = `500
5. S.P. = `20800, Profit = `1200
