                                               Roman Numerals

Till now, we learnt to use the digits 0, 1, 2,...,9 for counting numbers.

There are ten digits used in this system of numeration, so this is called
the decimal system. This system was developed by Indian mathematicians

in ancient time. This system was also called the Hindu-Arabic system
because Arabians learnt it first and passed it to the whole world.

Long long ago, Romans used another system of numeration called Roman
Numeral System. They used seven letters of the alphabet as the basic

symbols. The 7 symbols with their values in Hindu-Arabic system are:

        Roman Numerals I V X L C D M

        Hindu-Arabic Numerals 1 5 10 50 100 500 1000

This system is not based on the place value of digits. This system is based
on addition and subtraction for writing a numeral.

Let us now know the rules for writing numerals (here only for symbols I,
        V and X).

                                                                                                              107
