Again, we consider the above fractions in a different way to convert them
1 1 100 1
into percentages. Here, we also have = × = × 100% = 50%, so
2 2 100 2
we can say that we multiply a fraction by 100 to convert it into percentage.
1 1 100 1
\ = × 100% = % = 33 %
3 3 3 3
Example 1: Convert the following into percentages.
4 13 5 13
(a) (b) (c) (d)
5 40 7 15
4 4 20
Solution: (a) = × 100 % = 80%
5 5 1
13 13 5 65 1
(b) = × 100 % = % = 32 %
40 40 2 2 2
5 5 500 3
(c) = × 100 % = % = 71 %
7 7 7 7
13 13 20 260 2
(d) = × 100 % = % = 86 %
15 15 3 3 3
Converting Percentages into Fractions
Think about 45%. We know, 45% means 45 out of 100.

45 45 9
\ 45% = = =
100 100 20 20
Thus, to convert percentage into fraction, write the percentage as a
fraction with denominator 100 by removing % symbol and hence reduce
it to its simplest terms.
Example 2: Convert the following percentages into fractions.

(a) 60% (b) 85% (c) 16 %
