Decimals and Percentages
We have learnt in the previous classes how to convert a fraction into a
percentage and vice versa. Likewise, we can also convert the decimals into
percentages using same process as we learnt for fractions.
Converting Decimals into Percentages
Example 3: Convert each of the following decimals into percentages.
(a) 0.6 (b) 0.28 (c) 1.7 (d) 0.125
6 6
Solution: (a) 0.6 = = × 100 % = 60%
10 10
or 0.6 = (0.6 × 100)% = 60.0%, i.e., 60%
28
(b) 0.28 = = 28%
100
or 0.28 = (0.28 × 100)% = 28.00%, i.e., 28%
17 17
(c) 1.7 = = × 100 % = 170%
10 10
or 1.7 = (1.7 × 100)% = 170.0%, i.e., 170%
125 125 125
.
(d) 0.125 = = × 100 % = = 12 5%
1000 1000 10
or 0.125 = (0.125 × 100)% = 12.500%, i.e., 12.5%
