P. 147
Example 15: Find the number that, when added to 725832, will make
it completely divisible by 468.
Solution: Here, we have to find the difference between divisor and
remainder because when this difference will be added to
the dividend, it will be divisible by the divisor.
1 5 5 0
468 7 2 5 8 3 2
– 4 6 8
2 5 7 8
– 2 3 4 0
2 3 8 3
– 2 3 4 0
4 3 2
– 0 0 0
4 3 2
From the division 725832 ÷ 468, we get Q = 1550 and
R = 432.
So, the required number = 468 – 432 = 36
Note: Sometimes, we are asked to find a number which when subtracted
from the given number will make it divisible by another number. In that
case, the remainder is the required number. Here, 432 will be the required
number.
