Forming the Greatest and the Smallest Numbers Using the Given Digits

We have already learnt to form the numbers using the given digits.
We arrange the digits in ascending order to form the smallest

number with the given digits. Note that zero (0) cannot be put on
the extreme left place as it is not counted the digits in the number

so formed. Therefore, it is to be placed at the second leftmost
place.

To form the greatest number with the given digits, we arrange the digits
in descending order.

Example 20: Form the greatest and the smallest numbers using the
digits 2, 3, 5, 0, 9, 1, 4 and 6. (Digits not to be repeated)

Solution: The greatest number using the given digits is 9,65,43,210.

The smallest number using the given digits is 1,02,34,569

as 01234569 is the number of 7 digits.

Example 21: Write the greatest and these smallest 9-digit numbers

using the digits 3, 0, 1 and 5 only. (Digits may be
repeated.)

Solution: Here, we have only four digits to form the numbers.

To form the greatest number of 9 digits, we repeat the
greatest given digit at the higher places.

So, the required number is 55,55,55,310.

In the same way, in writing the smallest 9-digit number,
we repeat the smallest digit at the higher places.

Thus, the required number is 10,00,00,035.
