Predecessor and Successor
Predecessor is a number that comes just before a given number. For
example, 9 is the predecessor of 10, 199 is the predecessor of 200 and
2345608 is the predecessor of 2345609, etc.
To get the predecessor of a number, we subtract 1 from the given number.
Successor is a number that comes just after a given number. For example,
101 comes after 100, so 101 is the successor of 100, 555 is the successor
of 554, 1000 is the successor of 999 and 456789999 is the successor of
456789998, etc.
To get the successor of a number, we add 1 to the given number.
Skip Counting
In skip counting we start with a given number and write more numbers with
a fixed gap between the successive numbers.
Counting by twos: Gap of two between every two successive numbers.
Suppose we start with 6435581.
Then counting by two’s we get: 6435581, 6435583,
6435585, 6435587 and so on.
