Iron
Iron is used for making articles from safety-pins to ships. India has about
twenty per cent of the iron ore reserves of the world. It is the second

largest producer of iron ore in Asia and the fourth largest in the world.

Iron ore is produced in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Karnataka, Goa
and Madhya Pradesh. About half of the total production of iron ore is

exported to Japan, South Korea, China, East European countries and the
Gulf countries. Iron ore is smelted in iron and steel plants. Big plants are

located in Jamshedpur, Bhilai, Durgapur, Rourkela, Bokaro and Salem.
