Duration of Time
Salma was very excited while watching the India vs Pakistan cricket match
live at Mohali. She noted down some events as shown below:
Virat started He hit His catch He crossed He was
batting at first sixer dropped the score 100 declared out
10:30 a.m. at 11:10 a.m. at 12:05 p.m. at 12:40 p.m. at 1:00 p.m.
Now, answer the following questions by observing above timeline:
1. After how much time Virat hit the first sixer?
2. How much time did he spend on the crease after his catch was dropped?
3. How much time did he take to score 100 runs?
Solution:
1. Virat started batting at 10:30 a.m. and hit the first sixer at 11:10 a.m.
So, time from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. = 30 minutes
and time from 11:00 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. = 10 minutes
Total time = 40 minutes
2. Catch dropped at 12:05 p.m. He was declared out at 1:00 p.m.
Time between 12:05 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. = 55 minutes
3. Time between 10:30 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. can be found out as:
10:30 a.m. → 12:00 noon → 12:40 p.m.
1 hour 30 minutes 40 minutes
Total time = 1 hour 30 minutes + 40 minutes
= 1 hour 70 minutes = 2 hours 10 minutes ( 60 minutes = 1 hour)
