Solution: (a) 3.68 = 3.680 and 3.624 = 3.624
In these decimals, the whole number and the number
at the tenths place are the same. So, we compare the
number at the hundredths place.
Here, 8 > 2
∴ 3.680 > 3.624 or 3.68 > 3.624
(b) 0.594 = 0.594 and 0.59 = 0.590
In these decimals, since digits at the tenths and
hundredths places are the same, therefore, compare
the digit at the thousandths place.
Here, 4 > 0
∴ 0.594 > 0.590 or 0.594 > 0.59
Example 6: Arrange the following as directed:
(a) 4.2, 0.52, 0.025, 2.5 (Ascending order)
(b) 6.56, 0.925, 0.356, 0.765 (Descending order)
Solution: (a) Using the concept learnt earlier, we arrange the given
decimals in ascending order as:
0.025 < 0.52 < 2.5 < 4.2
(b) The given decimals in descending order are:
6.56 > 0.925 > 0.765 > 0.356
