P. 112
Can you read and expand the other two decimal numbers given in the
table?
Example 1: Write the decimals in common fractions.
(a) 0.4 (b) 0.03 (c) 0.106
Solution: Write the digit in the numerator. In the denominator,
write 1 and as many zeros as the number of digits after
decimal point in the given decimals.
4
(a) 0.4 =
10
Here, 4 is only one digit, so write one zero to the right
of 1 in the denominator.
3
(b) 0.03 =
100
Here, write 03 or 3 in the numerator and two zeros to
the right of 1, i.e., 100 in the denominator.
106
(c) 0.106 =
1000
Here, write the digits, i.e., 106 in the numerator and
1 with three zeros in the denominator.
Example 2: Write the following common fractions as decimals.
5 21 68
(a) (b) (c)
10 100 1000
Solution: Starting from right, count as many digits in the numerator
as zeros present after 1 in the denominator and put a
decimal point in the numerator.
5
(a) = .5 or 0.5
10
In 10, there is only one zero in the denominator, so
count one digit 5 and put a decimal point left of it.
