fish. They are very fond of art, music,

drama, literature and sports. They like
Rabindra Sangeet. Durga Puja is the most

important festival. Kolkata is the capital Durga Puja
of West Bengal.

Assam
Assam state is in the valley of the Brahmaputra river. The land is fertile

and the main crops grown are rice and jute. Tea is grown on the lower
slopes. Dispur is the capital, but Guwahati is the largest city in the

state. Most of the people speak Assamese. Bihu is main harvest festival
of Assam.

 The western part of the Northern Plains is called the Satluj River Basin.
 The Ganga River Basin lies mainly in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
