The main seaport is actually on the Hugli river,
a few kilometres away from the sea port named

Diamond Harbour. It is the main centre of
export and import of goods in eastern India.

The main tourist attractions in and around
Kolkata are the Howrah Bridge on the Hugli

river. This bridge is also called the Hanging Howrah Bridge
Bridge as it has no pillar in the middle to

support it. It has been renamed as Rabindra
Setu. Another bridge on the Hugli river is

Vidyasagar Setu which hangs on cables.

The Victoria Memorial, made of white marble,

Garden, Jain Temple in Belgachia, Science City, Birla Planetarium, Alipur
Zoo, Indian Museum, Rabindra Sarovar, Eden Gardens, Salt Lake Stadium,
etc. The main shopping centres are in New Market, Park Street and

Chowringhee Road. Kolkata is a big distribution centre for industrial

and consumer goods.
