of wheat. In all how many bags of wheat are being transported by these
two trains?

2. There are 3435 boys and 3362 girls in a school. How many students study
in this school?

3. A wall was made using 3858 bricks. Another wall was made using 2794

bricks. How many bricks were used in all?

4. Population of a town is 3787. Population of another town is 6315. What
is the total population of the two towns?

5. A factory made 5341 shirts last month and 2487 shirts this month. How
many shirts did they manufacture in the two months?

6. Population of a village is 2487. Population of another village is 2112. What

is the total population of the two villages?

7. A website received 2235 hits in first week, 3371 hits in second week and

4019 hits in third week. How many hits did it receive in the three weeks?

8. A toy exhibition was visited by 2986 children on Monday and 3234 children

on Tuesday. How many children visited the exhibition in all?

Properties of Addition

Property 1: Let us add 2729 and 3692.

2729 + 3692 = 6421 3692 + 2729 = 6421

We again get the same sum in both cases. We can say

2729 + 3692 = 3692 + 2729.

So we can change the order of two numbers when finding
their sum.
