Monica measured the length of her desk and said it was 5 handspans
               long.

               When the teacher measured them, she found that

               they were 4 handspans. Then Monica asked the
               teacher what the actual length was. The teacher
               explained that the actual length can be found

               using standard units of length.

               The centimetre and the metre are the standard
               units of length.

               Centimetre

                                                                                                    1 cm
               A centimetre is used to measure short lengths such 1 cm

               as lengths of a pen, a pencil, a brush, a chalk, etc. This is one cm.

               In the short form, centimetre is written as cm.

               The ruler in a geometry box is 15 cm long. It is used to measure the
               length of several items.

                Length of a chalk Length of a duster Length of a pencil
                 is about 7 cm. is about 15 cm. is about 12 cm.

               Measuring Length

               We can measure a pencil using the 15 cm long ruler or scale.
