P. 109
Profit = Selling price – Cost Price or S.P. – C.P.
S.P. = C.P. + Profit and C.P. = S.P. – Profit
Loss = Cost price – Selling price or C.P. – S.P.
S.P. = C.P. – Loss and C.P. = S.P. + Loss
Example 1: Prashant made a profit of `75 on selling a camera for
`1125. What was the cost price of the camera?
Solution: We have S.P. = `1125 and Profit = `75
As C.P. = S.P. – Profit
\ C.P. = `1125 – `75 = `1050
Example 2: A shopkeeper bought a desert cooler for `5800 and he
incurred a loss of `300 on its sale in off-season. What
was the selling price of the cooler?
Solution: Given, C.P. of the cooler = `5800 and Loss = `300
As S.P. = C.P. – Loss
\ S.P. = `5800 – `300 = `5500
EXERCISE 3.1
A. Find the cost price in each of the following.
1. S.P. = `10, Profit = `1
2. S.P. = `28, Loss = `3
3. S.P. = `150, Loss = `5
4. S.P. = `780, Profit = `50
5. Profit = `605, S.P. = `15800, repairing cost = `300
6. Maintenance = `250, Loss = `100, S.P. = `9100
B. Calculate the profit or loss in the following.
1. C.P. = `55, S.P. = `70
2. C.P. = `110, S.P. = `102
