Example 3: Calculate the percentage of profit or loss in the following.
(a) S.P. = `600, C.P. = `540
(b) C.P. = `1000, S.P. = `900
Solution: (a) Here, S.P. = `600 and C.P. = `540
Since S.P. > C.P., there is a profit.
And Profit = S.P. – C.P. = `600 – `540 = `60
Profit

`60 1

`540 9
(b) Here, C.P. = `1000 and S.P. = `900
Since C.P. > S.P., there is a loss.
And Loss = C.P.– S.P. = `1000 – `900 = `100
Loss

Also note that profit = Profit % of C.P. and loss =
loss% of C.P.
Example 4: A calculator is sold for `825 and the shopkeeper earns
a profit of `75. Find the profit percent.
Solution: Given, selling price of the calculator = `825 and profit = `75
Since profit percent is calculated on cost price, so first we
find it.
Cost price = Selling price – Profit
= `825 – `75 = `750
