Actually, the Earth takes about 365 days to complete one revolution

around the sun but only 365 days are taken in a calendar year. Therefore,
to adjust this difference, 1 extra day is added to month of February

every fourth year and hence, it is called a leap year.

Example 1: Express the following into hours:

(a) 6 days (b) 1 month

(c) 2880 minutes (d) 18000 seconds

Solution: (a) 6 days = 6× 24 = 144 hours

( 1 day = 24 hours)

(b) 1 month = 30 days = 30 × 24 = 720 hours

(c) 2880 minutes = 2880 ÷ 60 = 48 hours

( 1 hour = 60 minutes)

(d) 18000 seconds = 18000 ÷ 3600 = 5 hours

( 3600 seconds = 1 hour)

Example 2: Express the following into days:

(a) 7 weeks (b) 3 months

(c) 2 years (d) 345600 seconds

Solution: (a) 7 weeks = 7 × 7 days = 49 days

( 1 week = 7 days)
