Like and Unlike Fractions

Observe the following figures.

We observe that both the circles are divided into same

Converting Unlike Fractions Into like Fractions

We can convert given unlike fractions into like fractions by finding their
equivalent fractions with the same denominator.

Example 4: Change and into like fractions.

Solution: Let us find the equivalent fractions of the given unlike
fractions with the denominator as the LCM of 4 and 6.

∴ LCM = 2 × 2 × 3 = 12

 LCM of 4 and 6 is 12.
