                   Activity

Take a measuring jar and pour some water in it. Now, add
a teaspoonful of sugar into water. Stir the water with a
glass rod till the sugar dissolves completely. After that,
observe the level of the solution in the measuring jar.
                 What do you observe?

The level of water in the beginning and at the end of the activity remains the
same. This is because the sugar molecules do not take up extra space but fit into

the space between the water molecules.

                                                                 • Hands-on Learning

               Liquids dissolve in liquids

                                                                                                 • Analysing/Hands-on Learning
                   Activity

Take a beaker and fill it half with water. Now, add some
milk in it. Observe what happens immediately. Then stir this
                 solution with a spoon.
                 What do you observe?

The milk mixes completely with water. Here, both water and milk

are liquids. Hence, their solution is called liquid in liquid solution.
Now, try to mix oil with water in a beaker. What do you observe?

The oil does not mix well. It forms a distinct layer on the surface

               of water.
               Therefore, we conclude that:

 Liquids that mix well with each other are called miscible Layer of oil

                    liquids. on water

 Liquids which do not mix with each other are called immiscible liquids.
