Safety rules for handling electrical equipment
Electrical equipment can be very risky, if not handled

carefully. The following rules should be kept in mind:

 The switch should be turned off before touching
a stove, heater or lamp. They remain hot even

             after switching‘off’.

 Electrical wires or cords should NEVER be touched
             with wet hands.

 If water is being heated in a bucket with an Danger sign

electric rod, we should not touch the bucket or
put our hand in water, while the switch is on.

 The electrical wiring of the house should be checked

             from time to time.
 In case a person receives an electric shock, the

current should be cut off immediately by turning

             off the main switch.
 If the main switch or board catches fire, the wires

should be disconnected with a wooden stick.

NEVER use water to extinguish an electric fire
because it passes current. Use sand in place of
             water. Touching electric wire with

                                                                                      wet hands is dangerous

                                                    FIRST AID

In case of an accident, an immediate help in

time can save a person’s life. The first help
given to an injured person before reaching

the doctor is called first aid.

What first aid should be given to a victim
depends on the type of injury. It means we

cannot give the same type of first aid to the
victim of an electric shock and a person

        rescued from drowning.

                                                                                                              203
