Preparation of geoboard: Take a cardboard/hardboard, some drawing pins,
white paper, a ruler, a marker, etc. On a paper of size 12 cm × 12 cm, make
10 × 10 square grid leaving 2 cm margin from each side. Place this sheet on a
cardboard and fix the drawing pin at each point where the vertical and horizontal
lines meet each other.
Thus, your geoboard is ready.
Method:
1. Take a rubberband and
make figures like a square, a
rectangle, or other rectilinear
figures on the geoboard.
Here are some figures made.
2. Count the number of squares
each one enclosed. This will
give the area of the shape.
3. Count the number of squares
touches on each edge. The
total number of squares will
give its perimeter.
Observation:
1. Figure A encloses 9 squares and length of each side is 3 squares.
Area of figure A = 9 sq. units or 9 sq. cm
Perimeter of figure A = 4 × 3 squares = 12 squares or 12 cm
2. Figure B encloses squares. Its length is and
breadth is .
Area of figure B =
Perimeter of figure B =
3. Figure C encloses complete squares and half
squares.
Area of figure C =
