Division Method
In this method, we explore the number which divides the given number
completely, i.e., without remainder.
Let us find the factors of 16.
16 ÷ 1 = 16
16 ÷ 2 = 8
16 ÷ 3 = ?
16 ÷ 4 = 4 Cannot divide completely.
16 ÷ 5 = ?
\ 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 are the factors of 16.
Now, let us see some more examples.
Example 1: Is 6 a factor of:
(a) 10 (b) 18 (c) 30?
1
)
Solution: (a) 610
− 6
Here, the remainder is 4.
4 So, 6 is not a factor of 10.
3
)
(b) 6 18
− 18
Here, the remainder is 0, i.e., no remainder.
0 So, 6 is a factor of 18.
5
)
(c) 6 30
− 30
As 6 divides 30 exactly, so, 6 is a factor of
0 30.
