P. 85

In the short-cut method, we write the amount of money using a dot (.)

first. Then remove the dot and symbol ` and add the symbol p at the end.

        For example, 6 rupees 15 paise = `6.15 = 615 p

                       12 rupees 8 paise = `12.08 = 1208 p

When we write the amount of rupees and paise together, we always write

        paise in two digits.

        Converting Paise into Rupees

We know that a dot separates the amount of rupees and paise when they
are written together. Hence, we follow these steps to convert paise into

        rupees.

Step 1: Count 2 digits from right and put a dot (.).

Step 2: Remove the symbol of paise and add the symbol of rupees.

Example 3: Convert the following into rupees.

                             (a) 6000 paise (b) 2640 paise (c) 905 paise

        Solution: (a) 6000 paise = 6000 p = `60.00

                             (b) 2640 paise = 2640 p = `26.40

                             (c) 905 paise = 905 p = `9.05

                                                 EXERCISE 2.1

              2. `25.25 = 7. = Twenty rupees five paise

              3. `78.40 = 8. = Sixty-two rupees fifty paise

              4. `30.75 = 9. = Eighty rupees eighty paise

              5. `625.50 = 10. = Ninety rupees twenty-five paise
