Constellations

If you watch the night sky carefully, you may nd some patterns made by the

stars. ese patterns are called constellations. us, constellations are groups

of stars that make some patterns. Constellations are named a er some known
shapes. Ursa Major forms the shape of a big bear and Ursa Minor makes the
shape of small bear. Similarly, Orion makes the shape of a hunter.

                                                   THE SUN

e sun is a star. It is a huge ball of extremely hot gases.
Like other stars, it is far away from the Earth but looks big

because it is much closer to our Earth. It is the nearest star
        to our Earth.

e heat and light of the sun are the ultimate sources of

energy on the Earth. e heat from the sun causes winds
to blow, the change of seasons and rains to fall. The sun

                                                  THE MOON

e moon is another heavenly body in the sky. It is much smaller and lighter than
our Earth. It looks much bigger than the stars because it is nearer to the Earth. It
does not have its own light. It shines because the light of the sun falls on it.
