Take a sheet of paper. Fold and press it to make a crease. Now unfold

and mark the crease so formed.

A paper sheet Fold Unfold and mark

Here marked crease refers to a line. We represent a line using two
letters of the English alphabet. (Please note that here we consider a

line segment as a line.) For example,

                               A B P Q

We read line AB, line PQ, etc.

               Straight and Curved Lines

You might have played with a toy phone. Sometimes, you would have

felt difficulties to communicate with your friends. When you had
investigated the cause, you found the strings were loose.

                 Speaker Listener Speaker Listener

                           Clear communication Difficult communication

In these pictures, stretched string refers to a straight line and loose

string refers to a curved line.
