Words like half, one-third, three-fourths represent parts of the whole
or a part of the collection.

A part of a whole is called a fraction.

Let us observe some fraction one by one.

Fractions of a Whole Object

One-half

Mr Sharma and Mrs Sharma ordered a pizza and they shared it equally.
Can you say, what part of the pizza did each of them eat?

1 whole pizza
One-half One-half
A whole pizza is cut into 2 equal halves and each of them gets

one-half of the whole pizza.

One-half is written as 1 Number of piece eaten by each
2 Total number of pieces
