Vertical Subtraction with Borrowing–I

Let us subtract 205 from 623.

Step 1: Read ones column. 3 – 5

But 5 > 3. So 5 cannot be subtracted from 3. 1 13
We borrow 1 ten from tens place.

Now 1 ten + 3 ones = 13 ones.
We cross out 3 and write 13. – 2 0 5
Also we cross out 2 and write 1.

Now, 13 – 5 = 8. We write 8 in ones column. 4 1 8
Step 2: Read tens column. 1 – 0

1 – 0 = 1. We write 1 in tens column.
Step 3: Read hundreds column. 6 – 2

6 – 2 = 4. We write 4 in hundreds column.
