Most people read history while a few of them make history through their
words and works. The people who make history become immortal and we
are proud of them. Let us learn about some such persons across the globe.
Sushruta and Charaka
Ancient India was very rich in medical science. The Atharva Veda was
the first Indian scripture that dealt with diseases and their treatment.
Later, two famous works in medicine were written. These were:
the Sushruta Samhita, written by Sushruta, a surgeon
the Charaka Samhita, written by Charaka, a physician.
Sushruta is called the ‘father of plastic surgery’. He was an expert in
removing stones from the kidneys and the bladder, treating fractures
