Types of Force
ere are di erent types of forces. Some of these types are as follows:
Muscular force: e force applied by our hands or legs to carry
out some work is called muscular force. It is called so because
we apply this force with the help of our muscles.
Gravitational force: e force by which the earth pulls things
towards it is called the gravitational force or gravity. is force
helps us to stay on the ground. Also, all objects fall down from
a height due to gravity.
Frictional force: When we roll a ball on the ground, it stops
a er moving some distance. is happens due to a force acting Lifting bag by using
muscular force
between the ball and the ground. is force is called frictional
force. It is a very important force that enables us to walk. Friction due to air
slows down the speed of falling objects.
Elastic force: When we stretch a rubber band and
release it, then it regains its original shape. is
is due to its elasticity. us, a force that develops
due to deformity in the shape of an object is called
elastic force. Elastic force of a stretched rubber band
Mechanical force: e force applied by a machine is called mechanical force.
Most simple machines apply mechanical force on the object.
Buoyant force: When we put something in water,
an upward force resists it from going down. is
upward force acting due to water is called buoyant
force. e buoyant force makes things oat in
water. A huge ship also oats in water due to the
buoyant force. Ship sailing in water
SIMPLE MACHINES
We use di erent devices to do di erent works. ese devices are called machines.
Machines help us do our work easily and quickly. ey make the work easier
by changing force or distance, or by changing the direction of force. Scissors,
knife, iron rod, screw, pulley, hammer, washing machine and mixer-grinder are
the machines that we use in our daily life.
