Teacher wants students to know that plants can also grow from plant parts.

Plants can also grow from roots, stems, leaves and buds. It is called vegetative propagation.

The roots of sweet potato can grow
        l
           into new plants.

                               The stem cuttings of rose
                            l
                               plant grow into new plants.

The stem of potato, ginger and
        l
onion grow under the ground and
           give rise to new plants.

                              The leaves of Bryophyllum give
                           l
                              rise to new plants.

There are some other plants which do not grow from seeds. They grow from small
and round structures called spores. Such plants do not have flowers. They are called
nonflowering plants. They are mushrooms and moulds.

                                                          Spores
                                                                                         Are their spores
                                                                                         dispersed like seeds
                                                                                         of other plants?

         Yes, spores
         are very small
         and light. They
         remain floating
         in the air
         and reach all
         around. They
         grow in damp
         environment.

                                                                                                              251
