Kinds of Sentences
We have discussed in the previous classes that there are different kinds of sentences.
They are:
Declarative sentences Interrogative sentences
Imperative sentences Exclamatory sentences
Let us discuss exclamatory sentences in detail here.
Exclamatory sentences convey sudden and strong emotions of joy, excitement, surprise,
anger and other emotions. An exclamatory sentence begins with a capital letter and ends
with an exclamation mark (!).
Examples: 1. How big is the cherry tree!
2. What juicy cherries!
We use interjections with many exclamatory sentences. An interjection is a word or
phrase that expresses a strong emotion.
Example: Oh! I have just received a surprise gift!
Some interjections are:
Ouch (expresses pain) REMEMBER
Wow (expresses surprise or admiration) We use ‘What...’ with plural
nouns and ‘What a...’ with
Alas (expresses grief)
singular nouns.
Hurrah (emotion of joy)
Bravo (to cheer or applaud someone)
Aww (for something sweet and cute)
C. Use correct interjections and exclamation marks as you rewrite these sentences.
One of them is done for you.

1. I twisted my ankle.
Ouch! I twisted my ankle.
2. We have won the Science Contest.
