H. Heritage, especially architectural heritage, is a heritage of the whole mankind, not of
any community, race or nation.
During World War II, the Allies (England, France, Poland, etc.) discovered that
German soldiers were using the Leaning Tower as an observation post. A US Army
sergeant was sent to confirm the presence of German troops in the tower. The
sergeant was so impressed by the beauty of the cathedral that he refrained from
ordering an artillery strike, thus sparing it from destruction.
What would you have done if you were in the place of that sergeant?
