Painting

Each one of us expresses thoughts or
feelings. We can do it in many ways. Early

man used to do it by painting the walls of
the caves. We can see the cave paintings at

Bhimbetka near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
There are beautiful paintings on the walls

               of Ajanta caves in Maharashtra.

Later on, the Mughal emperors invited

artists from Iran and Iraq. These artists Rajput painting
were expert in detailed paintings called the miniature paintings. The

Indian kings engaged the renowned painters to paint the walls of the
               palaces and the temples.

The Rajputs had their own miniatures. They drew scenes from the life
of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. In the present period, there are many

modern painters. We can see their work in art galleries. The different
styles of paintings developed in different States of India.

                                                         Architecture

India has a distinct style of architecture from
the early times. We can see it in the Indus

Valley Civilisation (now in Pakistan), the
stupas at Sarnath and Sanchi, and the temples

of Mahabalipuram and at many other places.

India is popularly called the land of temples,

forts and palaces. The ancient temples of
Madurai, Thanjavur, Belur, Halebid, Dilwara, Victoria Memorial

Ranakpur, Khajuraho, Puri, Konark and the Kailash temple at Ellora are
known for their artistic work all over the world.
