electricity. On the other hand, all living things get energy from food. Plants
get energy from the sun and make their food. All animals get food from plants
directly or indirectly.
The sun is the ultimate source of energy on the earth. Other sources of energy
are wind, water, coal, petroleum, etc.
Forms of energy
There are many forms of energy such as:
Muscular energy
The energy stored in our muscles is called muscular energy. We use muscular
energy to run, kick a football, lift a bag or ride a bicycle. We cannot do our daily
activities without muscular energy. Regular exercise helps to make the muscles
strong and have good muscular energy.
Solar energy
The energy that we get from the sun is called solar
energy. The sun gives energy in the form of heat
and light. Solar energy is used in many ways as
for drying clothes, fish, wheat grains, spices, etc.
Green plants use this energy for making their food.
We also use solar cookers for cooking food and
solar heaters for getting hot water.
Wind energy A windmill
The moving air is called wind. The energy of wind is called wind energy. It is
used to move the blades of a windmill. Windmills help in generating electricity,
pumping out underground water and to grind cereals to make flour.
Hydroenergy
The energy of flowing water is called hydroenergy. This
energy can be used to do work.
The flowing water of a river is stored in a dam. When
the gates of the dam are opened, the water rushes down
with great force. The energy of the falling water is used
to produce electricity in hydropower stations. A dam
