by planting more trees on hill slopes and by keeping

the soil covered with plants. Overgrazing destroys
vegetation and soil. Therefore, overgrazing must be

checked. We should use organic fertilizers in place of
chemical fertilizers. Chemical fertilizers pollute soils.

We should follow crop rotation to enhance fertility of
               the soil.

               AT ONE GO
 The soils of India can be classified into six major groups, according to their colour and composition.

 Alluvial soil is found in the Northern Plains. It is very fertile for growing all types of crops.
 Mountain soil is rich in humus.
 We must protect the fertility of soils.

               REMEMBER THESE TERMS

Alluvial soil : The sand, silt and clay deposited in the Northern Plains of India
Leaching : It occurs when heavy rains wash away the fertile layer of soils
