STEM ACTIVITY 3
Showing that different materials can hold different amounts of water
¶ Take a thick and a thin sponge of the same size.
¶ Soak the sponges for a minute in the same amount of water.
¶ Now, squeeze the small sponge into a measuring cup and the thick sponge into another measuring cup. What do you see?
¶ Different materials can hold different amounts of water. A thick sponge can hold more water than a thin sponge.
STEM ACTIVITY 4
Showing how moisture causes foods like bread and fruit to spoil and develop fungi (mould)
¶ Take a plastic bag.
¶ Put a few pieces of orange and bread slice in the plastic bag.
¶ Pour a few drops of water into the bag.
¶ Seal it and leave at a safe place.
¶ Observe the bag each day. What happens after a few days?
¶ You will find a white cotton-like mass on the pieces. It is because moisture makes food like bread and fruit spoil and
grow mould.
