grey shading indicates (seven-eighths).

2. A circle is divided into 6 equal parts. Out of them,
1 part is shaded red and 5 parts are shaded yellow.
1
Thus, the red shading shows (one-sixth) and the
6
5
yellow shading shows (five-sixths).

3. The number of total parts in the adjoining shape =
blue-shaded parts = and unshaded parts =
3
. Thus, blue-shaded parts show (three-fifths)
5
and unshaded parts show (two-fifths).
Reading and Writing a Fraction
In any fraction, we find two numbers written using a horizontal bar. The
number above the bar is called the numerator and the number below the
bar is called the denominator.
The denominator refers to the number of parts in which the
whole figure is divided. The numerator refers to the number
of parts that is taken out from the whole.
For example, the given figure is divided into 8 equal parts.
Out of which, 3 parts are shaded red.
Hence, we write the fraction
3 ← number of shaded parts (Numerator)
8 ← number of total partss in a whole denominator
We read the fraction as three-eighths.
