               Definite Article

 We use the before the name of a particular thing or person.

 We also use the when we refer to a thing or person who has been mentioned earlier.
                      1. Suresh built a house.

                      2. The house has a garden.

In sentence 1, we write a house. In sentence 2, we

write the house because we have already mentioned
the house in the previous sentence. In sentence
2, we write a garden, but in sentence 3, we write
the garden as we have already mentioned it in the

               previous sentence.

 We also use the before nouns that are unique.
Examples: the sky, the Earth, the sun, etc.

We can use the for both singular and plural nouns.

legs crossed. wall was narrow. She also noticed that Humpty
Dumpty had eyes, nose and mouth. She stood there with her

hands stretched to catch him, for she was expecting him to fall.
