We live in India. India is our motherland. India is the seventh largest

country in the world. India has a population of more than 140 crore. It
is the highest in the world.

India became independent on 15 August 1947.

At independence, India was declared a democratic country. It gives us right

and duty to elect a government
to rule the country. Therefore,
the government in our country

is elected by the people of India.

The government looks after the
needs and welfare of the people.
The government which controls

the whole country is called

the Union Government or the
Central Government. Rashtrapati Bhawan

Since our country is very big, it is not possible for a government to rule

the whole nation. Therefore, the whole country is divided into States and
